Glenmaggie Wines
Glenmaggie Wines is owned by the Dawkins family, which has a long association with Gippsland Grammar, going back to the 1970s and ‘80s when winery owner Tony Dawkins and his brothers were students. This association strengthened more recently as Tony and wife Fleur’s son Jack is also an Old Scholar (Class of 2016). Tony’s late mother Ailsa was a member of the JJAJJGAN group, which was an active fundraiser for Gippsland Grammar and his father Ray famously coached the School’s under 18’s football team to consecutive premierships in 1970/71.
Of his wines, Tony says: “Having our own vineyards gives us
complete control of the wine making process from the vine to the bottle. Great wines are grown in the vineyards first and only later turned into wine”.
Blue Gables
Blue Gables is a boutique vineyard owned and established by Catherine and Alistair Hicks, whose children,
Lachlan and Ashton are Gippsland Grammar Old Scholars. Their younger daughter Indiana is a current student at the Garnsey Campus.
Blue Gables produce some of Gippsland's premium wine, with Shiraz, Pinot Noir, Sangiovese, Pinot Gris, Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay varieties planted across the 9 acre vineyard. Blue Gables also have a busy Cellar door/Restaurant which is a popular destination, offering weekend lunches including woodfired pizzas.
It is very much a family run business with all the family actively involved in the work that goes into making Blue Gables wines, and the operation of the Cellar door on weekends.
Lightfoot and Sons
Wine tasting on Lightfoot and Son’s magnificent Cellar Door deck has become a ‘must do’ on East Gippsland’s food and wine circuit. Positioned at the edge of a limestone escarpment overlooking the Lindenow Valley, the views to the vineyard and beyond are magnificent.
The Lightfoot family has been a long-time supporter of Gippsland Grammar with father Brian serving on the Gippsland Grammar Board and sons Tom, Rob and Nick attending the School the 1990s. Rob’s daughter Claire is a current student at the Bairnsdale Campus.
These days, Rob and Tom manage the vineyard and winery with Rob the General Manager of the business and Tom the Viticulturalist & Winemaker. “We have a truly unique vineyard in terms of soil structure and climate. Our wine making philosophy is all about expressing that individual character” Tom says.
The Gippsland Grammar Foundation
Foundation Centenary Wine
The Gippsland Grammar Foundation has partnered with three local wineries with associations to our School, to offer commemoratively labelled boxes of quarter dozen, half dozen or dozen premium Gippsland wines.
This fundraiser is perfectly timed for Easter celebrations, and dare we say, a fabulous grown-up alternative gift to Easter Eggs! With this in mind we offer a gift card option that can be inserted in any boxes that we can then deliver for you.
We are so grateful to Glenmaggie Winery, Blue Gables and Lightfoots who have partnered with us to generously support this fundraiser.
Orders can be placed until Thursday 28 March and wine can be either picked up from our Garnsey Campus or delivered Australia wide via Australia Post.
Please share the details of this fundraiser among your friends and family; we appreciate your support in doing so.
If you have any questions about Gippsland Grammar’s Centenary Wine, our Development Co-ordinator Sarah Guinness will be happy to help you and can be contacted via email at development@gippslandgs.vic.edu.au
